Breed standard
In his general appearence, the manchester terriër is a very compact dog with good bone.
It is an elegant mover and very manoeuvrable.
The head is level and wedge shaped with small dark and sparkling eyes.
He has got small and v shaped ears, carried well above top line of head and hanging close to head above the eyes.
His body should be short with well sprung ribs, slightly arched over the loin and cut up behind the ribs.
It’s legs should be quite straight, set on well under the dog and proportionate lenght to body.
It’s color is black and tan distributed as follows: on the head, muzzle tanned to nose, nose and nasal bones jet black.
Small tan spot on each cheek and above each eye, underjaw and throat tanned with distinct tan v legs from knee downwards tanned with exception of toes which shall be pencilled with black and distinct black mark (thumb mark) immediately above the feet.
Inside the hind legs tanned but divided with black at stiffle joint.
Under the tail tanned, vent tanned by marking as narrow as possible so that it is covered by it’s tail. A slight tan mark on each side of the chest. Tan outside hind legs, commonly called breeching, is undesirable. In all cases black should not run into tan and vice-versa, but division between colours clearly defined.
Ideal height at the shoulders for dogs is 40-41 cm (16 inches) and for bitches 38 cm (15 inches)
